Stictocephala bisonia, the buffalo treehopper is a member of the family Membracidae. It has a broad, triangular forehead with two lateral thorns, after which the species is named. Two complex eyes sit at the sides of the head, and two single eyes (ocelli) sit on the forehead between the complex eyes. A thin thorn is protuding backwards. The buffalo treehopper is colored green, speckled with light spots. The edges of its body are colore yellow and the tips of the thorns are colored brown or black.
The species is native to North America, but it was introduced to other regions, including Europe, North Africa and the Near East.
